Hooked Rag Rugs Wallhangings
I use all sorts of recycled fabrics for my wallhangings. I look for particular colours and for materials that don't fray (or not too much), though I prefer stretchy T-shirts as they come in so many colours and when stretched the material forms cords, which are very easy to hook. When I've finished, I shear the loops off as I find this helps to blend the colours and the different fabrics together and gives a pile effect. Earlier this year (2022) I found I was missing some colours in T-shirt fabric that I really needed, and in the absence of jumble sales, I resorted for the first time to buying new fabric from Vend Fabrics Ltd: https://www.vendfabricsonline.co.uk They have a really good range of colours in T-shirt material at a reasonable price, and will even send you a free swatch of several colours, so you can be sure that the material and colours are what you're looking for.. Click on Shop by Style, then scroll down to T-shirt & Jersey Fabrics, the option I chose then was the 8000 - COTTON INTERLOCK JERSEY. |
Rosie the Flying Cat!
Hooked in memory of a much loved pet. She was actually a brownish colour, but the orange and purple colouring is a bit of artistic licence to express her big personality! |
